I’ve had the biggest smile on my face while walking around Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend — and not just because I’m happy to be covering another NASCAR race.
There’s another reason why I’m so pumped: It’s the first time I’ve been back to the track since attending Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) with my wife last year.
EDC was one of the most fun experiences of my life. We’ve become huge dance music fans, and many of our favorites played EDC last June — Martin Garrix, Zedd, Marshmello, Alesso, etc. And really, the whole atmosphere — the lights, lasers, fireworks, confetti and 135,000 happy people — was really something to see. Take it from me: You don’t need to be on drugs or whatever to enjoy it.
But wow, it looks SO different for NASCAR weekend. I’ve been coming to LVMS for races since 2006, and seeing how it was set up for EDC compared to how it looks normally was really wild.
If you ever get a chance and like EDM even a little bit, do whatever you can to attend EDC.
Here’s a few pictures comparing how the track looked for EDC and how it looks during NASCAR weekend (all photos were taken by me):
That was an amazing study. Thank you Jeff.
How cool. I’ve been watching EDC concerts on AXS channel for a couple of years…….omg the artwork is amazing and to see a floor FULLLL of kids dancing and chanting makes me smile so hard……those kids are having FUN…..Not sure I could handle being there, but what fun to watch.
Come anyway. The best thing about EDC is that you’ll be accepted no matter who you are.
My wife and I are also big EDM fans and have attended EDC in NYC, plus Ultra Miami (2015 and again later this month), Indy 500 Snake Pit 2016, and Firefly 2016. Really cool to see the comparison shots!
We really hope Monster Energy will help to bring EDM artists to NASCAR events. We have attended about six Cup events per year over the last 15 years and usually skip the musical guests.
The real question is, How come Nascar fans are allowed to use the restrooms and EDC fans are treated like savages and forced to use port o lets?
Some restrooms room are actually open for edc.
This was awesome. Having been to edclv the last 3 years and being an avid NASCAR fan, the 2 different worlds colliding in one place is great to think about. Watching the race this past Sunday as the cars drove over the start finish line all I could remember was dropping kandi on the mama Irene kandi kid memorial edclv2015.
