Have you ever wondered how much the average sports fan knows about NASCAR? I sat down with my old high school buddy Adam Kekauoha, a big sports fan with minimal knowledge of current events in racing, to find out what has landed on his radar from the NASCAR world.
More than Brian France
I have to agree with your friend. The TV coverage today is definitely lacking. I would be interested to hear his reaction to coverage from before 2001. And, if he had heard of Dale Earnhardt Sr. in relation to a ‘big’ personality. Very interesting point of view.
Jeff that was totally, I mean the weirdest interview you have ever did ????????????????. I;m at a loss for words.
I love this podcast and this angle of content. Fresh!
I try to bring new fans into the sport. One friend told me that my heavy NY accent makes it hard to believe I follow NASCAR. I am pretty sure he had a stereotype in his mind when he heard the words, “NASCAR” and “fan” in the same sentence.
Adam seems to know enough to get by as a new NASCAR fan. His comments about the TV coverage are interesting. What was the coverage like, say, pre 2000? Did they have better TV cameras back then or just knew better how to paint a picture for the viewers? Gone are the days of Ken Squire and Ned Jarrett (before my time).
How would he feel about all of the rule changes and flip-flopping on the part of NASCAR?
You should take him to another race and explain the stages to him. Maybe then he would watch more than the first few laps and last couple of laps.
Jeff…. Possibly the classification for your friend might be “less than casual fan”… as opposed to “casual fan”.
